Type a letter, or tap one here. It goes on b.
Big letter on top is your reading. The small letter under the rule is the code. Solid tiles were given to you; dashed ones are yours to fill. Nothing here says right or wrong.
Today’s board
Time, best first · pointsNobody has solved this one today. Make an account and your name goes up here when you do. This board ranks solved runs, because it ranks them on the clock and a part-solved grid cannot be compared with a finished one. Every go earns points on the leaderboards either way.

Work out the swap and read the saying back, as quickly as you can.
- Tap a slot in the line and type the letter you think it is.It fills in everywhere that coded letter appears, which is what makes the next word readable. The small letter under the rule is the code; the big one on top is your reading of it.
- Start with the short words and the three letters you were given.A one-letter word is A or I. A three-letter word with the commonest letter at the end is very often THE.
- Change your mind whenever the line stops making sense. This is the one people get wrong. Nothing here tells you a letter is right, on purpose, because a game that did would just be guessing with a tick next to it. Say a letter, read what it does to the other words, and take it back if it made nonsense. Taking it back costs nothing.
Scored on time.
What the words mean
- The line:
- the short saying you are trying to read. It is an old proverb or a plain sentence of ours, never a quotation from anybody
- Coded letter:
- a letter as it appears in the line. Each one stands for one real letter, the same one everywhere
- The swap:
- which real letter each coded letter stands for. It is the same swap all the way through, and no letter ever stands for itself
- Given:
- the 3 letters filled in for you at the start, so there is somewhere to begin
